Plastic: A Silent Killer of Wildlife
Share
Plastic is everywhere in our lives, but it is also everywhere in our oceans. Every year, about 8 million tons of plastic waste escapes into the oceans from coastal nations, where it can harm wildlife in many ways, according to National Geographic. Plastic poses a lethal threat to animals that ingest it or get wrapped in it, causing them to choke, suffer, or starve. According to WWF, more than 800 marine and coastal species are affected by plastic pollution, including endangered ones like sea turtles, whales, and albatrosses. Plastic can also harm human health by entering the food chain and carrying toxic chemicals.
How can we stop this silent killer of wildlife?
We need to reduce our plastic consumption and disposal, and demand action from governments and businesses to regulate plastic production and waste management. We can start by bringing our own eco bags when we are shopping. We can also use our own lunch boxes instead of plastic ones.
Plastic pollution is a global problem that requires a global solution. We can all do our part to save wildlife and the planet from this silent killer. Join us in saying no to plastic and yes to nature!
